Fuel(ing) Innovation - MMM #23
Hi there,
Another week has gone by and I’ve returned to the UK. Soon summer term will start with high intensity courses so I’m currently enjoying a last few quiet weeks. Here’s what I found interesting this week.
📃 In this mashup:
⭐Highlight: Fuel Innovation
👔Business: Consumer Sentiment Index at its Minimum
💽Data: Running Up That Hill
🤖Automation: Super Computers
Have a great week!
⭐Highlight: Fuel Innovation
Aviation has the image of being very carbon intensive (“dirty”), although it only accounts for 3% of carbon emissions. The industry relies on the development of alternative fuels to fuel its sustainability goals (such as the one created by Shell).
MIT technology covers the state of the industry, check out the article below.
Alternative fuels that barely exist today will likely be key in cutting emissions and limiting warming.
👔Business: Consumer Sentiment Index at its Minimum
The US Consumer Sentiment Index is at its lowest point ever, far below the levels of previous crises. It’ll be interesting to see when it bottoms out and how far “sideways” the market can move before we enter a recession.
💽Data: Running Up That Hill
An interesting infographic that shows the impact of a song’s usage in popular media. In this case: Stranger Things using Running Up That Hill in the series’ latest season.

🤖Automation: Super Computers
“We’ve reached the exaflop era”. Super computers allow countries to conduct cutting-edge scientific research. In a great article by FT (free full version via the Tweet below) Oliver Roeder lays out the state of the super computer race and gives examples of discoveries made by those nations holding the fastest machines in history.
